Rachel Weisz to Start Filming ‘Seance on a Wet Afternoon’ in London in January 2026
The British capital will welcome Rachel Weisz in the coming New Year. The filming of the psychological drama Seance on a Wet Afternoon will take place in London in January 2026. Tomas Alfredson will direct the movie, based on a screenplay by Jack Thorne adapted from Mark McShane’s bestselling 1961 suspense novel of the same name. Matthew Macfadyen is also cast.
The plot centers on Myra Savage (Weisz), who can read minds and occasionally glimpse the future. This has made her the target of ridicule from other so-called psychics, whose cheap tricks she openly despises. Despite her abilities, Myra has never been able to contact the dead, as she lacks the cooperation and recognition of established mediums.
Driven by a hunger for fame, Myra and her husband Bill devise a dangerous plan. Bill abducts a six-year-old girl from her schoolyard and forges a ransom note. After fear and tension grip London, Myra plans to “rescue” the child using her psychic abilities, forcing the city to acknowledge her supposed powers. What could possibly go wrong?
Rachel Weisz most recently starred as Beverly Mantle and Elliot Mantle in Prime Video’s thriller series Dead Ringers. She has also appeared as Melina in Marvel’s Black Widow, Lady Sarah in The Favourite, Clare Crowhurst in The Mercy, and Ronit Krushka in Disobedience.
She will next be seen as an English professor in Netflix’s forbidden-romance series Vladimir, based on Julia May Jonas’ debut novel of the same name.
Tomas Alfredson previously directed the Gary Oldman–starrer Cold War spy thriller Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, the acclaimed horror film Let the Right One In, and episodes of the drama miniseries Faithless.
Other upcoming productions set to shoot in London include the Paramount+ political drama series Cash, starring Charlize Theron; the supernatural thriller Deeper, featuring Tom Cruise and Ana de Armas; and Guillem Morales’ romantic thriller The Duchess of Malfi.
